Patrice Lamothe, Pearltrees’ CEO,  is currently in San Francisco to introduce Pearltrees alpha 0.4.1 to bloggers and tech watchers. It is really valuable to understand to see what is expected from a start-up in the valley. Some points are clear : realtime, connection to complementary web services and integration to other users habits are key to make a hit. Although it is still an alpha version Pearltrees seems attractive thanks to the design and the concept are good assets to build on.

Pearltrees keeps its fast iteration pace and we’re very excited to release today the new iteration of Pearltrees: Pearltrees alpha 0.4.1 called “French Kiss”. Our main objective was to enable you to build the world of your interests so we worked on 3 mainstreams:

I Natural organisation: making things easier

– To organize your account and arrange your pearls, pick one pearl at a time and put it where you want.

To move a branch, click on the pearl at the beginning of the branch, and maintain your click. After a short time, the links between pearls will become blue: this indicates that you selected the whole branch, you can move it anywhere you want.

– Right click: there is now a functioning right-click on pearls and on pearltrees. Use it to share, copy, cut and delete your pearls easily!

– “Up” button: when you browse from a user account into a pearltree of another user, use this new button to go back where you came from

– “What’s connected”: We’ve improved the algorithm that calculates how close pearltrees are from one another to determine the “what’s connected”. It is now more accurate!

II User interface

– Colors: You’ll notice it quickly, we changed the “look and feel” of Pearltrees. The idea is to concentrate colors on things that really matter to you (your pearltrees!). All the rest is uncluttered. The blue has become the main color as it symbolizes connections.

– Pearltrees is now available in French! (yeah I know you english speakers don’t care…)

III Deeper integration to the Web

Pearltrees’ vocation is to be deeply integrated into the Web. Two features are a step toward this integration. You’ll find them in the pearl window when you click on the “Share” button (which is now at the bottom of the first tab).

Pearltrees continue sur sa lancée et son rythme d’itérations rapides. Nous sommes donc très heureux de sortir aujourd’hui de la nouvelle itération de Pearltrees : Pearltrees alpha 0.4.1, nom de code “French Kiss”. Notre objectif était de vous permettre de construire le monde de vos intérêts, donc nous avons concentré nos efforts sur trois axes.

I Organisation toujours plus naturelle

– pour organiser votre compte et ranger vos perles, déplacez une perle à la fois en la saisissant et mettez la ou vous souhaitez

Pour déplacer une branche, cliquez sur la perle située au début de la branche et maintenez votre clique. Après quelques instants, les liens unissant les perles deviennent bleus. Cela veut dire que la branche entière est sélectionnée et prête à être déplacée où vous voulez.

– Le clic-droit sur les perles et les pearltrees a été implémenté. Utilisez-le pour partager, copier, couper et supprimer vos pearltrees facilement !

– “Bouton “Up”: quand vous parcourez  un pearltree construit par un autre utilisateur, utilisez ce nouveau bouton pour revenir d’où vous veniez !

-Nous avons modifié l’algorithme calculant les positions relatives des pearltrees les uns par rapport aux autres. La fonctionnalité “pearltree connectés” est maintenant plus pertinente !

II Clarifier l’interface

– Vous allez le remarquer assez rapidement, l’habillage de Pearltrees a été changé. L’idée est de concentrer les couleurs là ou sont présentes les choses qui vous intéressent le plus (vos pearltrees !). Tout le reste a été épuré. Le bleu est devenu la couleur principale puisqu’il symbolise les connections.

– La version francaise de Pearltrees est maintenant disponible !

III. S’intégrer plus étroitement au Web

Pearltrees a vocation à être intégré étroitement au Web. 2 fonctionnaltiés vont dans cette direction. Et ça se passe quand vous cliquez sur “Partager” dans la fenêtre de la perle.
